AOpen intros media center

Japan's AOpen on Friday announced the upcoming release of its latest small form factor media PC, the XC Encore OE700. To keep the PC quiet, AOpen used its Smart Anti-Vibration System (SAVS) to ensure the hard drives stay quiet. Sound that is created is muted thanks to the case's design, called Smart Noise Suppression System (SNSS). An unusual vacuum fluorescent display (VFD) on the front face lets users check on the operation of the PC at a glance.

The PC is available with Intel's Core 2 Duo CPUs and RAM can be optioned up to 4GB. For audio and video connections, AOpen equipped the XC Encore OE700 with an HDMI and DVI video output, and there is support for 7.1-channel audio. Otherwise, there are four USB ports, two miniPCI slots, and a gigabit Ethernet port. The included optical drive is an 8x DVD burner. The entire package weighs about 8.6lbs. A Media Center compatible remote control is included with the system, which ships with Windows XP, though Vista is available and recommended.

The AOpen XC Encore OE700 will be available in Japan in May, though no prices were announced. AOpen does business in the US but hasn't said whether it has plans to bring the XC Encore to the country. [via Akihabara]
