Active Storage XRAID ES

Active Storage has announced the XRAID ES, a RAID storage system for Mac OS X that is available with 4TB and 16TB capacities. The device offers data transfer speeds of up to 744MBps using the RAID 5 configurations. Redundant power supplies, cooling systems and Fibre Channel connections are designed to prevent complete system failure if a single component malfunctions.

Each hot-swappable SATA II drive offers 1TB of storage, with spindle speeds of 7200 RPM and 16MB of cache. The 4TB variant can be expanded to 16TB in the same enclosure, while the 16TB version can be doubled to 32TB by attaching a secondary enclosure.

The 4TB XRAID ES is now available for $7,000, while the 16TB version carries a price of $10,000.

What makes this a RAID device for Mac OS X, as opposed to other RAIDs or using this with other OSes?

Oddly missing, that critical bit of information, yes. (Yoda voice optional)
