New Mac OS X 10.5.7, security updates in circulation

updated 04:20 pm EDT, Tue April 7, 2009

New Mac OS X 10.5.7 build

Another new build of the Mac OS X 10.5.7 update has been seeded to developers, say sources alleged to be involved with the subject. Labeled 9J44, the build may signal a rapidly-approaching conclusion to the update's development, with only five new bugs having been fixed for a total of 104. Among these is a glitch which caused problems with rendering fonts in PDF files. The smallest download of v10.5.7 is expected to be 442MB, while a combo update for all versions of Leopard should measure 730MB.

Apple is separately said to be asking security experts to scrutinize a new security release, Security Update 2009-002. Little is known about the patch, as a result of Apple keeping vulnerabilities quiet and asking testers to simply attack any openings they can find. Only a Tiger version is said to exist however, and it is rumored to address a hole in networking.

    obvious

It fixes a PDF display issue. Adobe Acrobat is a PDF product. Thus it is linked!

That was easy. Now, find a link in 6 steps but make sure Kevin Bacon is in there somehow.

    wow writing

It's almost as if this synopsis was written by a real writer or journalist. My gosh, complete sentences, saying "alleged" , quite a voice on this write-up. I'm shocked by macnn.com!

    PDF glitch

Glitch! That was more than a glitch. It made reading any of the technical docs I'd collected (from places like oracle.com) utterly unreadable, and seriously affected by ability to work at a time when I needed it least. I was forced to switch to using a Windows PC until I hunted down a fix. The only way I found to clear it was to install FontExplorer X, and use the option to clean out the system font cache during the install setup. So far the problem hasn't come back.
