Huawei to give T-Mobile Android phone in 2H09

updated 05:05 pm EDT, Tue April 7, 2009

Huawei Android phone soon

Chinese cellphone maker Huawei will reportedly supply wireless provider T-Mobile with its third handset running on the Google-developed Android operating system in the second half of this year. The handset, thus far called the G3, is expected to be the lowest-priced Android phone from the carrier and come equipped with a five-megapixel camera, 3mm headphone jack and a Wi-Fi connection.

The phone will also be the second Android device that is exclusive to T-Mobile after the original G1, as the HTC-built handset is getting a successor in the form of the T-Mobile G2 that will be known as the HTC Magic in the UK under carrier Vodafone when it launches in May.

"I can confirm that Huawei will be releasing the third Google phone on T-Mobile this year," said a Huawei spokeswoman in a Thursday MobileToday report.

Rumors of the Huawei Android handset first appeared at the end of March.
