BlackBerry Storm 2 to get Wi-Fi, early launch?

BlackBerry Storm 2 Rumor

A new leak today hints that RIM is planning a second BlackBerry Storm that would not only address one of the original's key flaws. Reportedly, a "very close" source tells SlashGear that a direct sequel is planned which would add Wi-Fi to the existing 3G. Other improvements are hinted at but haven't been mentioned by the tipster.

Importantly, the company and its close partner Verizon is also thought to be pushing for an earlier launch than last year. The launch would be slated for September, a month ahead of the Storm's one-year launch anniversary and two months before the same mark for the touchscreen phone's late November ship date.

Adding Wi-Fi would stand as a change of heart at Verizon. Observers and potential sources have long claimed that the carrier deliberately pulled Wi-Fi, as it has on other phones, to push customers towards using its own network and therefore to make them more dependent on paid carrier services. However, the omission has since left the Storm partly inferior as RIM's own BlackBerry Bold, the iPhone and numerous other devices include Wi-Fi in addition to GPS and other Storm features.
