MacHeist 3 Twitter promo

With four days to go, MacHeist has added two new applications to the MacHeist 3 software bundle. The new applications can be had via a Twitter promotion, which requires following MacHeist on Twitter for a unique code. The two titles are specifically Delicious Library 2 ($40) and Multiwinia ($20), increasing the value of the bundle by $60.

If all unlocks are met, the $40 MacHeist 3 should become worth over $1,000 in terms of retail value. The bundle has raised over $350,000 as of press time, approaching the second of three unlocks ($400,000). The promotion ends April 7, 2009 at midnight Eastern time.

    Scam!

Cant believe how many developers get suckered into this scam. Its a shame to see such great talent give it all away for the short end of the $ stick. Live and learn.

    Scan?

Yeah, developers are such idiots. Not one of them understands economics.

If each person buying one of these promos bought the apps seperately, they'd make a bunch more money. They certainly aren't going to make money by getting people to use one app and, as a result, go "hey. This is a good app. Let me buy more stuff from them."

It has been long proven that such a "halo effect" has never worked.

    Just wait

until these cheap skates start asking developers for support. As such, these developers will have to 'waste' time supporting a horde of people for $1. If the 80% of profits went to the developers and 20% to everything else, then I'd understand the incentive but if I were to guess, less than 10% goes to the developers.

    think of it this way

There's no way that I'm going to be a regular consumer of all these products. But the two or three that I would not have otherwise looked twice at, I may end up being a regular user of, and I'll be there when the upgrades come, money in hand to pay for the upgrade fee.

    Re: just wait

Profits? What profits? Technically they're selling $1000 worth of apps for $40. Thus, at most, each app would get some $3.

But, more importantly, ALL THE PROCEEDS GO TO CHARITY. Thus, they aren't being scammed, they're donating time/money to charity.

    Oh, maybe that's the scam...
