HTC Magic delayed to May

The launch of the HTC Magic, the successor to the original Android powered handset, the T-Mobile G1, has been pushed back to May from its earlier April release date due to a last minute hardware change. The Magic was due for an initial release via Vodafone UK before eventually making its way to T-Mobile in the US, most likely under the T-Mobile G2 name. The delay has not been acknowledged by Vodafone, at least on its website, which still lists the launch date as April, though the phone sales department confirmed it will arrive later than originally planned, now on May 1st.

HTC points to the last minute hardware change as responsible for the short delay, but did not elaborate on what exactly the update involves. The UK-version of the phone is due to sport a 3.2-megapixel camera with autofocus along with a 3.2-inch touchscreen, while the FCC filing that revealed the specs for the North American version of the phone revealed a 5-megapixel camera. The hardware change relates to the uprated camera on the UK handset. Otherwise, the specs for the US version include 7.2Mbps 3G access on T-Mobile's 1,700MHz band. The phone also has Bluetooth and Wi-Fi capabilities.

Pricing for the handset in either market has not been announced. [via Pocket-Lint]
