iSubtitles for iPhone, Mac
Bitfield has launched iSubtitles, an application that adds non-destructive subtitles to movies on the iPhone/iPod touch and Apple TV. The software enables people to use the interface of the device or application to turn on or off subtitles synced in real-time, and to watch the subtitled movies in full screen. Support is offered for all major subtitle file formats such as SubRip, SubViewer 1 and 2, Substation Alpha, and MicroDVD, and for applications including iTunes, QuickTime Player, and any other program that can play a QuickTime movie.
In situations where the movie is not supported by the software, users are able to batch re-encode it into an m4v file straight from within the application. All files can also be automatically or manually tagged with metadata to help with organization.
iSubtitles is compatible with Mac OS X 10.5.2 or later, the iPhone 2G and 3G, and iPod touch or iPod classic. It’s available to download from the Bitfield website and priced at $19.

I needed to add subtitles to an AppleTV movie the other day, and found Submerge, by bitfield (http://www.bitfield.se/submerge/)
Submerge is only $9, which is less than half the price of iSubtitles.
I wonder how the two apps compare, as Submerge did a phenomenal job of allowing me to import .srt files, customize the font/size/background/position of subtitles.

Submerge vs iSubtitle

The former writes the subtitles to the movie file thereby you cannot remove the subtitle when you don't want it. iSubtitle allows you to switch on or off and multiple languages.
