Western Digital ups slim My Books to 2TB

updated 04:45 pm EDT, Wed March 25, 2009

WD My Book Slims at 2TB

Western Digital today gave all of its single-disk My Book external hard drives new 2TB capacity levels. The upgrade is equivalent to about 241 hours of full-bitrate HD and is particularly described as useful for Mac users or frequent shoppers from iTunes. At least 250 million TV shows have been bought, according to data from Apple, while over 33 million movies have either been rented or bought outright.

The features otherwise remain the same and are headlined by the Mac products: both the My Book Mac Edition and Studio Edition come pre-formatted in HFS+ for Apple computers, with the Studio adding FireWire 400/800 to the core Mac Edition's USB connection. The Home Edition targets the widest possible audience with both Windows-friendly formatting as well as eSATA, FireWire 400 and USB interfaces; the Essential Edition is a direct Windows parallel to the Mac Edition.

With the exception of the 2TB Mac Edition, which ships next month, all the drives should be shipping now at prices between $330 and $380 depending on the number of ports.
