iPhone apps: Pocket Tunes Radio, Medical Abbreviation

  • Pocket Tunes Radio ($10) allows users to listen to internet radio stations on their iPhone or iPod touch. Users can listen to any of the stations included in the application or use the built-in browser to add additional stations. Pocket Tunes Radio also provides information on the song that is playing and can link users to the song in iTunes.

  • Medical Abbreviations ($1) is a tool that provides users with access to more than 14,000 medical abbreviations. Each entry includes a Wikipedia definition and access to the Google search results for individual abbreviation meanings. The application also allows users to search for abbreviations and their associated terms, save abbreviations to a favorites list for easy access.

  • "Jackson Pollock" by Miltos Manetas ($1) is a tool for creating contemporary art in the style of Jackson Pollock on the iPhone of iPod touch. As users paint on the screen the app randomly chooses colors and determines the phones orientation for simulating running paint. The application also features support for multi-finger painting and can save images to the users Photo Library.

  • Agency Wars 20 ($3) is a massivevly multiplayer online game for the iPhone and iPod touch. Players take on the role of a spy and must protect the world world from evil terrorists, drug dealers and corrupt warlords. The world is filled with items for players to collect and sell and includes several real world locations such as Siberia and Tokyo. The iPhone version also includes several geo-location missions that can be completed in the players home-town.

  • iBird Explorer Plus ($20) is a complete field guide to all species of birds that can be found in North America. The application includes audio samples of the songs and calls of most species of bits and uses a visual icon-driven search engine that can help with identifying species by color, shape, habitat and more. The guide also detailed Wiki pages for each bird and full color range maps that show where different species can be found.
