17in MB Pro graphics fix

Apple has released a firmware update for the aluminum-unibody 17-inch MacBook Pro. The update addresses the display problems that users recently reported, including vertical lines or distorted graphics. Posts on Apple's support forums indicated a variety of symptoms from green lines to speckles, occuring independent of a specific application but more prevalent during graphics-intensive tasks such as gaming.

AMD expressed concerns that the issues would tarnish the reputation of the entire graphics-component industry, in response to speculation that overheating was causing the artifacts. The company suggested the fears were blown out of proportion and an the problem could have been related to an entirely different issue.

Graphics Firmware Update 1.0 is contained in a 770KB file that can be downloaded from Apple's support page.
