Wacom unveils Intuos4

Wacom has released the Intuos4, the latest addition to the Intuos line of pen tablets. The company claims the device offers improved pressure sensitivity capable of recognizing 2048 individual levels, while the new tip sensor offers a near-zero starting pressure of one gram. The Grip Pen also features a pressure-sensitive eraser and two side switches that can be configured for commands such as double-click or right-click. An optional wide-body grip is also available.

Customizable shortcut and modifier keys are provided, with accompanying OLED displays showing the assignments. The reference images automatically update each time a new application is opened. A Touch Ring can also be used to control up to four functions in an application, with a center button that toggles between functions such as zoom, scroll or brush size adjustment.

The ambidextrous housing can now be oriented effectively for right- or left-handed users, with the ExpressKeys located on the side. The icon orientation can be changed from within the driver software. A weighted pen stand also houses the standard, felt, stroke and flex nibs and a removal tool. A cordless, battery-free mouse is provided for additional tasks.

The Intuos4 will be available in four sizes, with the smallest tablet carrying a price of $230. The medium-sized version is priced at $370, while the large variant can be purchased for $500 and the extra-large tablet costs $790. The tablets will be available beginning March 25th.
