Rogers rep on iPhone plans
The $30, 6GB data plan remains available for iPhones bought through Canada's Rogers, a customer care worker claims. Although originally offered as an early promotion, the plan is still said to be available, in spite of a lack of publicity and allegations of massive overcharges if a user's account information is suddenly changed. The plan is in fact said to be available with any Windows Mobile smartphone on a three-year contract as well, the main caveat being that shoppers may have to ask for it.
The trouble some iPhone subscribers have been having may be connected to other provisions of the plan, which limit it only to new activations or upgrades to a smartphone. If the option is knocked off by accident, it can require extra effort on the part of Rogers support to get it back in place; it should not however take the amount some people have suffered through, the worker claims. He suggests that frustrated iPhone owners simply call again for another representative if the one they are talking to refuses to restore an original deal.

Not exactly...

A friend just bought a new iPhone with a 3-year contract and they flat out said the deal was no longer available when we asked...

This is patently false. My partner and I have been to two different fido/Rogers stores in the last week asking about this and we were told that the 6GB was a promotional deal that is now "over" and it cannot be had for any money.
This is just Rogers changing their mind and denying they were ever saying the first thing. I bet if I went there after work today, the attendant would still refuse to give us the plan.

Rogers lies again

No surprise to me. I've been a victim of Rogers' lies before. When I ordered NHL Centre on Ice I was absolutely assured that it included all HD games as well. Yes I was paying all the extra HD fees too. However, when I couldn't receive the HD games they insisted I needed to upgrade to the full Sports bundle. This is in stark contrast to what I was told by a Rogers when I ordered it, also contradicts the description at nhl.com.
Complaints to Rogers didn't help. However I switched to StarChoice which included them and my cable bill is about 30% less with more channels and HD channels.

It's somewhat ironic that the verb "to roger" in UK slang terms means to aggressively s**** -- as this company seems to do to its customer base.

The 6gb plan was always just a promo when the iPhone first came out. This is not news, it has always been that way. I am not affiliated with Rogers at all (other than being a customer), and I knew this from day one. Wake up people.
I do still agree Rogers is pretty evil. However, my bill has always been correct, never had connection issues, customer service has always been helpful (which I have only called twice).
I have heard some pretty crazy horror stories though, and dealt with some as well. Maybe I am just lucky.
