Sony Ericsson USA president leaves amidst troubles

updated 12:45 pm EDT, Mon March 23, 2009

US Sony Ericsson head gone

After a three-year tenure, the current president of Sony Ericsson's North American division is leaving the company, an announcement reveals. Najmi Jarwala is officially said to be leaving Sony Ericsson USA in order to "pursue other career opportunities." Filling in for Jarwala as of April 1st will be the executive VP of Sony Ericsson, Anders Runevad, who will have to split his responsibilities until a permanent replacement for Jarwala can be found.

In spite of the positive tone of the company's announcement, Jarwala's departure may be connected to a predicted $461 million loss for the current financial quarter, which could prove to be as extreme as $529 million once final results are calculated. Demand for Sony Ericsson cellphones is said to have slipped considerably, to the extent that shipments are predicted to be just 14 million across all models. Phones such as the XPERIA X1 and the Idou are expected to help reinvigorate interest.
