Apple delays iTunes Genius feature for videos

updated 10:40 am EDT, Fri March 13, 2009

Video Genius feature delay

A key advertised feature of iTunes 8.1 is missing, users have noted. Promised in the recent update was an extension of the Genius sidebar, which would offer recommendations for movies and TV shows as well as music. The Genius button currently disappears completely, however, when selecting either of the video sections within iTunes.

References to the feature remain within notes presented in Software Update, but Apple has removed any mention from its website. The option has not been removed from iTunes itself though, according to an Apple spokesman. "The feature isn't live yet," says Tom Neumayr, "but it will be in the coming days." It is uncertain whether or not a minor iTunes update will be needed to activate Genius for video.
