Wii to get USB hard drive?

There is no official word from Nintendo, but a Wednesday posting on Qj floats rumors that the company's Wii gaming console getting a much-needed storage bump courtesy of an external hard drive. The drive, due to reportedly be offered in 32GB and 64GB capacities, would attach to the Wii via its rear USB ports and blend it to look like a natural part of the rectangular box.

Users will need to load a firmware update to make the hard drive work. Currently, the Wii only has 512MB of built-in storage, with an SD memory card slot letting users expand it by as much as 2GB. No release dates or pricing information is yet known about the add-on USB drive.

Nintendo has previously announced it plans to boost the Wii's onboard storage capacity.

    Who cares?

I have owned video games systems galore since the late 70's and this last gen was it for me. I think I am too old to play video games (can you hear my knees creaking?) anymore.

Nonetheless, after owning all three of the current gen of consoles (and finally selling them off) I was only ecstatic to sell the one...the Wii. Absolute waste of money. My wife who is not a heavy gamer even thought the Wii was pathetic in comparison.

So now we have a hard drive...whoop dee doo.
