Samsung quietly ships 50-hour Q2 media player

Samsung YP-Q2 Launches

Samsung in a low-key affair has slipped out the YP-Q2 as its latest mid-grade media player for the US. The device is more comfortable to hold and has a more obvious touch-sensitive control scheme than the Q1, but centers on a greatly extended battery life that has grown from 30 hours to 50 hours for music without changing the 4-hour video runtime or adding bulk.

The feature set is likewise the same and, beyond typical MP3/MPEG-4 and Windows Media audio and video formats, includes support for the harder-to-find FLAC and Ogg Vorbis music standards. An FM tuner as well as radio and voice recording are built-in, but some of Samsung's more premium features like Bluetooth are left out.

Samsung's posting appears premature and doesn't include pricing or any clues to release dates, though the Q2 has the same 8GB and 16GB capacities of the Q1 and may get the same $130 and $180 official prices as a result. [via Pocketables]
