Brother e-paper viewer

Brother Japan on Thursday introduced its SV-100B document viewer which, despite appearances, is not meant to compete with e-book readers such as Amazon's Kindle 2. Instead, the is more advanced, featuring a 9.7-inch electronic paper display with a 1200x825 resolution at 150dpi. Unlike the Kindle 2 or other dedicated e-book readers, the SV-100B can also display the screen of a PC, smartphone or PDA connected via Bluetooth.

There is also no wireless data radio for downloading files and also no internal memory. Users can load up microSD cards with content, and the device ships with a 2GB card that can store as much as 10,000 pages. The lithium-ion battery life is rated at 83 hours or 5,000 pages. Any document can be viewed on the SV-100B's four-tone grayscale display, though it first needs to be converted on a PC via included SV-Manager software. For security, there is 128-bit AES encryption and a password lock feature that locks out all data on the microSD card.

When it launches in Japan on June 1st, the SV-100B will be priced at the equivalent of $1,450. [via Impress]
