iPhone apps: Inspiration, iNapkin, Mental Blocks

Mental Blocks, Wake!Gently


  • Inspiration ($1) is an application that can display random motivational quotes at the touch of a button. Each quote can be emailed or users can find out additional information on the author through a Wikipedia link. Inspiration includes a large database of quotes that come from a range of different authors.

  • Sounds of Adventure ($1) uses the built-in accelerometer to create a mix of sounds such as the crack of a whip or blast of a gun. The application includes over 50 different sounds that have been broken down into categories such as "Adventurer," "Kung-Fu Master" and "Galaxy Ranger." The sounds can all be activated by swinging the device from side to side, or up and down likes the weapon of your choice.

  • iNapkin ($3) is a drawing app that allows users to pan and zoom around their napkin and draw with three different color pens. Users can also save any of their sketches or notes as a picture to their photo library that can then be shared via email.

  • Mental Blocks ($2) is a game where players aim to score as many points as they can by clearing colored blocks from a playing grid. Each time the grid is cleared a new level is randomly generated meaning that each level will be unique and provide new challenges. The game also features several special blocks that can help users progress through the game and raise their scores.

  • Wake!Gently ($3) is an alarm and bedside clock that wakes users slowly through the use of progressive alarms. Wake!Gently includes eight professionally recorded, licensed, non looped "ambient" sounds that can be used as alarms including: Birdsongs, Waves and Waterfalls. The application also includes three different dimmer modes, both a 12 and 24 hour clock and an auto snooze options.

      Enough already

      Could we please stop putting iPhone news on the MacNN page. It just creates noise for those of us who are focused on computing to have to filter through. Why not just start an iFoNN page and use the LeftLane spot to promote it? Cars aren't really a related a subject matter anyway.
