ASUS P-series notebooks

At the CeBIT show currently taking place in Germany, ASUS introduced two new business-oriented notebooks, the 13.3-inch P30 and 14-inch P80, the former using Intel's new Consumer Ultra Low Voltage (CULV) processors, while the latter will use Centrino 2-era CPUs. The P30 on display at the show uses the 1.2GHz SU9300 Intel Core 2 Duo CPU and has 4GB of RAM. Both new products have LED-backlit displays with 16:9 aspect ratios and 1366x768 resolutions that are matte, to avoid glare.

The P30 handles graphics thanks to an integrated GMA X4500HD processor and packs a 320GB, 7,200RPM hard drive. Power comes from a standard 4-cell battery, but a 9-cell is optional, providing the notebook with 8 hours of life. The P30's chassis is also covered by a shock-resistant coating.

The larger P80 will be offered in a few configurations, including the P80O with an Intel Celeron dual-core T1600 or T1700 on a Mobile Intel GL40 mainboard, a P80A with Pentium dual-core T3400 or T4200 CPUs and a P80V with Core 2 Duo P7450, P8600 or T9600 chips, the latter of which will be based on PM45 mainboards. This will also allow buyers to specify NVIDIA's GeForce 9300M GS chipset with 512MB of dedicated memory. The P80s will include a hot-swappable module bay.

The P-series notebooks will use ASUS' ShockShield Data Protection is meant to keep data on the hard drive protected during accidental drops, along with a fingerprint sensor and a 1.3-megapixel webcam. Various editions of Windows Vista will be available with either notebook.

No pricing or release information is yet known for ASUS' newest notebooks. [via NotebookItalia]
