Perl Dev Kit 8 update

ActiveState has released Perl Dev Kit 8 (PDK), and update to its tools for developing and launching Perl applications. Two new features in the latest version include a platform wrapping capability which enables users to create and deploy programs to any platform, and a PerlApp function. PerlApp is designed for small development teams and allows users to run coding policies against their source code in order to see if their program is up to standards. The PerlApp offers both predefined and configurable policies.

Perl Dev Kit 8 offers users a series of tools for making and deploying Perl applications that allows for the creation of code filters, to convert VBScript programs or snippets, and the ability to analyze code coverage and hotspots. In addition, the program also provides users with ActiveX controls creation capabilities, and a graphical debugger.

PDK 8 is compatible with Mac OS X 10.4 or later, and is priced at $300 for a single user license or $1180 for a 5-pack. Users upgrading to the new version of PDK will have to pay $95 for the update from PDK 7, or $145 from any earlier versions.
