New iMacs with NVIDIA graphics due shortly?

New iMacs imminent?

New iMacs with NVIDIA-based graphics may be closing on a release, in spite of legal disputes, sources claim. Existing models of the computer are said to be in low supply with resellers, and Apple educational salesmen are reportedly being given the go-ahead to offer special discounts. An image has also been leaked of new marketing material, which touts NVIDIA graphics for both 20- and 24-inch sizes.

At present, only the 24-inch iMac has the option of an NVIDIA video card in place of an ATI model; a switch would bring iMacs into line with modern MacBooks and MacBook Pros, which use NVIDIA's GeForce 9400M and 9600M processors. Complicating matters may be an ongoing row between Intel and NVIDIA, in which the former has insisted that NVIDIA cannot build chipsets for Core i7 processors. The leaked marketing suggests, however, that Apple will remain with Core 2 Duo processors for the time being.

a quad processor. Maybe the high-end model will have one. Who knows? Otherwise, I'm not a buyer.

    Re: Mac Stinking pro

I don't want a consumer POS like the mini either. But I also don't want to spend $3000 on a new Mac. Man, if only there was something in between, not as big and heavy as the mac pro, but not as limited and fixed as the mini. Couple of Core2Duo processors, 2-4 bays, PCI-e graphics and another slot...

Yeah, that's what so many of us have been pining for for like, forever now, and Apple won't oblige. Apparently Steve likes his AIOs, laptops and handheld devices. Poo poo on the desktop standalone units it seems.
I feel Apple is missing out on a potential market segment by refusing to offer something in the middle.

For those wanting something in between the MacMini and MacPro, isn't that was Psystar is for?

    No QuadCore?!

I've been waiting for months for Quad Core iMacs, I can't believe they still might refuse to release them. It would be crazy at the price quads are now. I seriously would have to reconsider using Macs in my business...

It would be ridiculous to still refuse to have quad core machines at this point, when one can build a PC with quad core for around 800-1000$. Either way I can't wait, to know if I continue using Macs, or if I buy PCs...

    Come on apple :(

    Refuse??

"I can't believe they still might refuse to release them"

Has it ever crossed your mind that Apple is not doing this just to p*** you off, by "refusing" to release them, but there might be legitimate reasons for the delay? Like, availabilty or price points of parts, logistics, hardware issues to be ironed out, etc.?

Jeez, people, Apple isn't holding back on products just to annoy you. Get a grip.
