Vuzix iWear AV310 viewer

Vuzix on Thursday announced that its iWear AV310 Widescreen personal media viewer is now available. The device is worn by users like a set of eyeglasses and includes two tiny screens, one for each eye, which provide a 16:9 aspect ratio and have the ability to display 3D images. Each screen also has independent focal adjustments to accommodate different eyesight. The AV310 Widescreen plugs into iPhones, iPods, cameras, DVD players, video game consoles and other devices that have a composite video output for either NTSC or PAL.

The device produces images that are the equivalent of viewing a traditional 52-inch screen from nine feet away. Power comes from a single AA battery, which provides up to five hours of life. An AccuTilt control has 15 degrees of tilt adjustment and this along with other settings can be set via the on-screen interface. For comfort, both the nosepiece and earphones are adjustable, with the latter removable.

The Vuzix AV310 Widescreen is available now online, priced at nearly $250.

    Described as high res...

...but only 240 pixels high - this would seem only half the res of regular vga let alone 720p HDTV....

Yeah but right next to your eye it might make up for it. Don't know, I wonder if Best Buy will carry these. Then I'll go try them out.

I have a similar product and they are nice. You do feel like a dork wearing them, and they are bulky to carry.

HOWEVER, it is better than watching on a hand held screen (even the iPhone's).

    Great on an airplane.
