Rumor: Best Buy planning sizable discounts on iPhone

Best Buy iPhone sale

Best Buy may be planning to offer sizable discounts on iPhones as a promotion for Reward Zone Members, according to A tipster claims that the retailer will take $100 off the handsets for Reward Zone Premier members, bringing the price down to $100 for a new 8GB unit and $200 for the 16GB variant. The promotion would match the respective $100 and $200 offers from AT&T, but customers would receive new phones instead of refurbished devices.

The source claimed that the discounts will be available only though February 22nd to the 28th. The $100 reduction will only be available to Premier members, while subscribers to the basic Reward Zone program will receive $50 off any iPhone. Customers that sign up for a new membership on or after February 22nd are only entitled to a modest discount of $10.

I spoke with a BB rep this morning who said she had gotten an email detailing the sale just as stated. Your RewardZone status must be effective as of today to qualify for the sale prices (gift card purchases count towards RewardZone points). Does this mean a new model is in the pipeline???

    the 'ad'

"As a reward for having to put up with our shoddy service, lame products, and barely decent sales force over the years, we're going to finally give you a reason to come to best buy"

    No Thanks

I'd love to own a legitimate iPhone, but even if the phone is given away for free it doesn't justify the high AT&T plans that require a Data line. Further, AT&T is one of the worst consumer companies on the planet. Until Apple's AT&T deal expires, I will stick with my older iPhone running on T-Mobile.

    $30 data plan problem

I lookes on ATT and simply could not justify an extra $30 on top of my $52 (with taxes and stuff) plan. Worst since I don't ever use my alloted minutes to the point where I have some 3000 rollovers. I simply will NOT pay an extra $30 for a data plan to have this phone. Especially since that "data plan" will not "legally" tether the phone to my N800 for infrequent use on the road.

    Sticking with my Chinese iPhoney.

    How much longer?

How much longer must we wait to get an iPhone on a decent carrier in the US? AT&T has no presence in many areas, including my entire state (MT). More bars in more places?
