MacBook Pro disassembly

iFixit has disassembled the new 17-inch MacBook Pro, exposing the internal components and several new design features. The aluminum unibody model integrates a battery that is not accessible without removing the entire bottom panel. Apple secured the 12820mAh battery with three tri-wing screws to discourage removal, although the battery can be swapped using the correct tools and weighs approximately 1.25 pounds, which is 20% of the computer's total mass. Aftermarket battery manufacturers are likely to offer a replacement soon.

Apple has moved the Bluetooth board from its previous location in the display assembly. The component now resides behind the optical drive, potentially saving users money if a replacement is needed.

The Sunon fan is physically larger than the 15-inch unibody fan and features 'MagLev' technology to suspend the fan shaft without any contact between parts. The magnetic bearing design is claimed to offer improved rotational stability, reduced vibration and increased resistance to high temperatures.

Despite the new design features added to the 17-inch MacBook Pro, it still displays an internal layout similar to the MacBook Pro 15-inch. However, the use of an aluminum unibody case apparently does provide the new laptop with more of a solid feel than its predecessor. Lastly, Apple has also decided not to include a Mini DisplayPort Adapter, in its latest model.

    Re: Tri-wing

Just another type of s**** Apple uses to irritate those who may want to disassemble one of their computers.

    Wouldn't be suprised...

...if apple created their own screws in the future. Then I really will be saying F*ck Apple!

    Propietory screws

True bunch of engineering geniuses posting here. The tri-wing s**** is designed to take a finite amount of torque, preventing damage to the component being attached. It is commonly used on circuit boards and similar items. Try to over tighten one-you'll see what I mean.

Now if they had one with a fitting with an imprint of the apple logo, wherein you'd need the apple logo screwdriver to remove it, I'd say you have a point. Presently you don't.

    Oh and...

They also discourage tampering and are widely used by almost all manufacturers of electronic items.
