Mitsu halts LaserVue HDTVs

Electronics maker Mitsubishi has temporarily halted production of its flagship line of LaserVue HDTVs, a Wednesday Engadget report maintains. Mitsubishi says the delay is due to a problem with the manufacturing equipment used in the build of the HDTVs, though does not give any additional details. The company is, however, making all the efforts to resume production of the high-end TVs and is taking steps to ensure quality of the products and their reliability are not negatively affected.

The company is expecting production of the LaserVue HDTVs to resume early in 2009. There is just one model in the LaserVue lineup, the 65-inch L65-A90, which sports 1080p resolution and is the first commercially available laser TV, Mitsubishi says. Priced at nearly $7,000, the HDTV has a 120Hz panel and a 500-nit brightness rating. The LaserVue TV is also capable of reproducing 3D effects, though the media, source hardware and supporting standard are not yet available.
