Nokia intros E63 handset

First appearing late last year, the Nokia E63 is now available for purchase in the US, the handset maker announced on Tuesday. Marketed as a less costly option to the company's E71 smartphone, the E63 has support for North American 3G data networks using HSPA and includes a Wi-Fi module for even faster access. The QWERTY device has a full HTML web browser and can access multiple e-mail accounts with Mail for Exchange support.

There is also a 2-megapixel camera for capturing photos and videos, while music can be played back to third-party headphones thanks to a standard 3.5mm stereo jack. File storage is via a microSDHC memory card slot.

The E63 includes a 12-month subscription to Nokia's Files on Ovi service that consists of 1GB of online storage for users' content that can be easily accessed via an Internet-connected PC, Mac or mobile device. The E63 is available in red or blue and is priced at $279 as a contract-free, unlocked device.

Even though this is a stripped-down version of the E71, it's still a worthy competitor to devices like the iPhone because of its keyboard AND the fact that its bluetooth supports the use of an external keyboard (like Apple's!).
