Samsung Memoir at T-Mobile

T-Mobile today quickly silenced rumors by launching its version of the Samsung Memoir. The full touchscreen phone is one of the first 8-megapixel cameraphones with an official US carrier and aims to overcome most of the flaws of cellphone cameras, including the addition of a Xenon flash, autofocusing and five shooting modes. Its photo features also debunk late rumors and involve 3G data on T-Mobile's 1,700MHz band, giving it enough speed for out-of-the-box photo uploading to sites like Flickr and Photobucket.

Samsung also promises a high-response (likely capacitive) touchscreen that allows finger input on a virtual keyboard and quicker control of the company's in-house TouchWiz interface, which puts apps and informational widgets in a top-level view that reduces the need to delve into deeper menus.

The Memoir also comes with data-assisted GPS mapping, media and video playback that includes formats like AAC and H.264, and stereo-enabled Bluetooth. T-Mobile hasn't given a price or launch date but is largely anticipated to be shipping the phone on the 25th and may price it at up to $300 on a two-year plan despite the absence of large permanent storage and Wi-Fi in competing devices like the iPhone.
