Book hints Nikon D400 coming by summer

Nikon D400 coming soon?

Nikon is expected to release a new D400 digital SLR camera some time this summer, according to a Wednesday NikonRumors report. The popular website points to a German Amazon listing for what promises to be a user's guide for the new product, though no specific details about the book were released. The author has published numerous other camera manuals from Canon, Nikon and other manufacturers, as well as guides for photo editing programs such as Photoshop, giving the leak credibility.

Little is known about the D400 itself, though by the sheer naming scheme and previous products, it is expected to have a larger sensor than the current D300's 12-megapixel sensor. Previous NikonRumors postings have stirred up debate about whether or not the D400 will feature a full-frame or smaller 1.5x (DX) crop sensor.

The D400 user guide is available for pre-order, priced at the equivalent of about $51, and is due to ship in July of this year in Germany, perhaps coinciding with the release of the D400 itself. If Nikon has plans to release the camera by July, it is expected to announce it at the 2009 PMA show in Las Vegas scheduled for the start of March.
