Iomega intros NAS drives

Iomega on Thursday announced the launch of two StorCenter Pro ix4-100 network storage devices for small business or remote offices. Available in 2TB or 4TB capacities, the enterprise-class drives can support as many as 25 networked users and are based on EMC LifeLine software that is a Linux operating system and suite of applications to oversee the operation of the devices. The four-bay Network Attached Storage (NAS) drives can be configured in RAID 5, RAID 10 or JBOD (just a bunch of disks) set-ups and have built-in UPS support.

Users can set up the NAS devices with media or print server capabilities, and can use them for recording from up to three compatible IP security cameras. Data can be uploaded via Bluetooth and the contained SATA II hard drives are hot-swappable. A Gigabit Ethernet port lets the drives connect to home networks, and there are four USB 2.0 ports for adding printers or external hard drives.

Iomega touts ease of use and set-up as another strong suit, as the NAS supports 11 languages and can be networked to Windows, Linux or Mac computers. A system dashboard gives users a quick idea of space, peripheral and device status. A built-in Picture Transfer Protocol allows users to automatically transfer photos from digital cameras via one of the USB ports. MozyHome online backup service is included, giving users 2GB of cloud storage.

The 2TB StorCenter Pro ix4-100 NAS Server is now available, priced at nearly $800. The 4TB StorCenter Pro ix4-100 will launch later in February, with a suggested price of about $1,300.
