New iPhone, iPod games

Skyworks has released two new football games for the iPhone and iPod touch, QB Pass Attack and X’s and O’s Football. In QB Pass Attack, players have to hurl a football into the hands of a receiver in one of two different modes, Classic or Progressive. In Classic players try to earn as many points as possible in 60 seconds, by throwing the ball to the close receiver for 7 points, or the further one for 30 points. Progressive mode has the player trying to gain yards for a touchdown before the time runs out, a feat accomplished by making complete passes. Failure to make passes or gain enough yards results in going back to the 20 yard line.

QB Pass Attack is presented in 3D, and lets users control a ball mid-flight by tilting a handheld horizontally for direction changes, or up and down to affect altitude.

X’s and O’s Football lets players take control of the coach, quarterback and receiver in order to make touchdowns and win the game. Each game consists of four 60-second quarters, in which users must try and score as many touchdowns as possible. While playing as coach, gamers pick from a variety of passing routes in the playbook such as curl, deep out and post. Once designated, players take control of the quarterback, set the players in position, and time when to throw the ball to the receiver. When the receiver makes the catch, players run him through the field by tilting a handheld up or down to adjust direction and left or right to control speed.

Also new for the iPhone and Touch is a new tower defense game, Circuit Defenders by Sector3. The game has players defend computer circuits from attacking virus armies, which are infiltrating through a communications port. The game consists of 10 different levels, and a variety of upgradable tower types. Some features of the game allow players to increase or decrease the speed, and sell towers as necessary.

QB Pass Attack and X’s and O’s Football are both priced at $2; Circuit Defenders costs $3. All three apps can be downloaded from the App Store.
