Canon intros AIO PIXMAs

Canon on Tuesday announced two new all-in-one office printers, the PIXMA MX860 and PIXMA MX330. Designed to meet the needs of home-based small businesses, each printer can scan, fax, photocopy and of course print documents. The higher-level MX860 has an automatic duplexing feature that can copy, scan and print on both sides of a page on a single run-through. While copying, the printer can also scan and print to reduce the time to complete a project.

The MX860 also introduces a Wi-Fi connection along with an Ethernet port to Canon's PIXMA Office AIO printers to allow it to access home networks and be shared by multiple computers or electronics devices. Users interface with the MX860 via a 2.5-inch color LCD and the printer's output resolution is rated at 9600x2400 color dpi. The scanner has an optical resolution of 2400 dpi. The PIXMA MX330 has a 1.8-inch color interface screen and delivers a maximum color resolution of 4800x2400 dpi, while its scanner has a maximum 1200 dpi resolution.

Either printer allows users to send digital scans in either JPEG or PDF format to a connected memory card (MX860 only) or USB flash drive.

The MX860 has fax memory that can store up to 250 incoming pages, while the MX330 can save 50 pages. A security feature will ask for a fax number twice, and if the two don't match, the fax will not be sent. Another is the ability to password-protect PDF files, restricting editing or printing such files.

For printing photos, an Auto Photo Fix feature optimizes quality depending on the type of paper used by correcting for red-eye, enhancing facial tones and adjusting brightness and contrast levels. The MX860 can produce a color 4x6-inch photo in about 41 seconds, while the MX330 does the same feat in about 45 seconds.

The PIXMA MX860 and PIXMA MX330 printers are priced at nearly $200 and $110, respectively.
