Silicon Mountain intros TV PC with dual-core Atom

Silicon Mount Allio Lite

Silicon Mountain this afternoon extended its home theater TV PC line downwards with the Allio Lite. The set continues to build in a computer behind a full HDTV but differs from normal models by a switch to a dual-core 1.6GHz Atom in place of desktop processors. The difference lets the company drop the price of the TV while still keeping enough performance for HD video and running Vista Home Premium.

The Allio Lite initially comes in 32- and 42-inch models. The $1,299 asking price for the 32-inch model supplies a built-in TV tuner as well as 2GB of memory, a 250GB hard drive, a DVD burner and integrated Wi-Fi. The TV component is strictly standard with a 720p resolution, a 1,200:1 static contrast ratio and dual HDMI inputs for digital sources. A 42-inch model at $1,599 is fundamentally the same but steps up the resolution to 1080p. Either model is available today.
