T-Mo New Android in 2009

T-Mobile USA in a new interview has revealed that it will expand its Android phone line to include more than just the G1. Senior engineering VP Neville Ray tells FierceWireless that there will be "more G series phones" in the year and thus backs HTC's claims of a second model in April and potentially the known plans for a third phone as well.

Many industry observers now believe the T-Mobile G2 will be a touchscreen-centric device leaked just earlier this month that drops the hardware QWERTY keyboard in favor of a virtual keyboard that will be included as part of Google's Cupcake update to Android. The phone is potentially less expensive than the G1 and would chase after customers who prefer the iPhone's form factor.

Ray also outlines much more aggressive plans for T-Mobile's American 3G network and says the carrier plans to "double" its coverage in 2009. Multiple new HSPA-capable phones should also be available, as will the company's first real data card for notebooks.
