Next gen iPhone details

Pinch Media has provided more details surrounding the 'iPhone 2,1' device that could represent the next-generation iPhone. The first time the handset popped onto the Pinch Analytics radar occurred early in October 2008. The devices appeared occasionally until mid-December, when usage escalated. A few dozen unique 'iPhone 2,1' phones have been logged, using a combination of Wi-Fi and AT&T connections. The geolocation-enabled hits came "almost exclusively" from the South San Francisco Bay Area and most phones ran larger applications.

Rumors surrounding the next-generation iPhone have varied significantly, with some claims expecting a smaller form-factor "Nano" and others suggesting a 4GB variant. Third-party case designs point to the smaller iPhone, approximately 20 percent shorter than the current 3G model.

    could be simulation

The iPhone SDK allows a developer to run simulations of their apps on a computer as if it were running on a real iPhone. So these occurrences that Pinch Media is observing could easily be a simulation of new iPhone technology on a computer or laptop, and not necessarily an actual iPhone device

    simulation

Apple must have multiple prototypes of the next generation iPhone, would be bad if they didn't. If it is a model for this year than they already need to make the deals for production and have multiple test devices.

    missed the big point

I noted with interest the part about it running 'larger applications'. This might indicate they are adding more RAM to the device.
