Casio touchscreen handset

Casio, together with KDDI, has recently unveiled the CA001 handset, equipped with a 3.1-inch, 854x480 resolution touchscreen display among many other features. It's the first Casio handset to run on KDDI's 3G CDMA 1X WIN network, allowing download speeds of up 2.4Mbps. The flip phone is double hinged, allowing the screen to be rotated towards the outside and fold back into the handset, similar to a tablet PC's operation.

The handset also support 1Seg over-the-air TV and will play back digital multimedia files via a Yamaha-developed software interface that includes basic music creation apps. There is a 5-megapixel digital camera with autofocus and face-detection technology. A pedometer will count user's calories burned in a day as part of the au Smart Sports Run & Walk software.

Otherwise, the CA001 has Bluetooth functionality, along with an e-wallet and integrated dictionaries. Built-in memory is rated at 500MB and is expandable via a microSD card slot. The battery is rated at 260 hours of standby time or 3 hours and 40 minutes of talk time.

The handset will be available in yellow, white and brown when it launches in Japan sometime this Spring, though pricing information is thus far unknown. [via Impress]
