BlackBerry handsets on Fido by February?

updated 12:45 pm EST, Wed January 21, 2009

Fido to get BlackBerries

While it is still unofficial, last week's rumors of Canadian wireless provider Fido, a sub-brand of Rogers, starting to offer BlackBerry handsets seem to be true as Fido staff has been trained on the RIM-made devices. As of February 4th, Fido will reportedly offer at least the BlackBerry Pearl 8100 to customers.

Pricing is reportedly on par with other Fido offers, with data plans expected to cost $15 for unlimited personal e-mail access and instant messaging, $25 for 500MB of data usage of any kind, $30 for 1GB and $60 for 3GB. The BlackBerry Enterprise Server will not be offered by Fido, as it is positioned as a low-cost brand, though tethering is reportedly permitted at no additional cost.

The initially offered BlackBerry 8100 will be priced at $400 contract-free, $350 on a two-year plan and $25 on a three-year commitment that includes both voice and data. [via BGR]
