Executives on Q1 call

[Update 5] - Peter Oppenheimer reiterates numbers behind strong quarter, including 9% unit growth for Macs despite overall market contraction.

- iPod sales are 3% higher than last year's record sales, driven partially by the "amazing breadth and popularity of content on the App Store."

- iPod market share still holds above 70% in the US, while growing internationally. Over 50% share held in Australia, UK, Japan and Canada.

- The iPhone's December share among AdMob hits achieved 32% worldwide and 48% in the US.

- Apple Retail Stores achieved over $1.74 billion in revenue, while over half of computers were sold to customers new to the Mac. 251 stores are established in 10 countries.

- Tim Cook answers a question about the future of Apple. "There is an extraordinary breadth and depth of tenure amongst the executive team, leading 35,000 employees that we all consider 'wicked smart.' The values of our company are extremely well entrenched ... we don't settle for anything less than excellence. Regardless of who is in what job, those values are so embedded in this company that Apple will do extremely well. I strongly believe that Apple is doing the best work in its history."

- Apple TV sales are up three-fold, but still considered a hobby. Movie rentals have helped Apple TV, the company continues to invest in it.

- The company plans to build another 25 Apple Stores this year, with half located internationally.

- Responding to a question about Android and the Palm Pre, Cook responds that it is difficult and not very enticing for developers to produce an app for each platform.

-Cook very bluntly alludes to the company's plans to defend its intellectual property. He claims that Apple will go after anyone that rips off its IP, using "whatever weapons at our disposal," although he declines to make any specific accusations.

Or threats. But as soon as those patents are approved, Apple's lawyers will come swinging.
