MacBook Pro matte screen
TechRestore has announced an upgrade service that will convert the latest 15-inch MacBook Pro to a matte-finish screen. The company replaces the entire LCD screen, instead of just adding a film over the existing glass. Screen specifications remain the same, including the resolution, color depth and LED backlight. A black bezel is also added around the edge of the surface, with holes for the iSight camera at the top of the housing.
The MacBook Pro can be converted for $200, including installation, return shipping and a one-year warranty on parts and labor. The company claims a turnaround time of 24 hours.

... this has been asked before but, what quality of panel do you get for $200 installed?

It's probably not $200. They're likely getting something for your old panel, so that subsidizes part of the cost.

Big Tax

Shame on Apple for not offering a matte screen option for the 15 incher.
$200 is quite the tax to convert an ostensibly professional machine to a truly professional machine.
I'm waiting for Rev.B at least, so maybe Apple will see the light in the meantime and restore professional specs to their professional line.
bfalchuk, that's 3!

Ahhhh... so maybe they'll be on top of things when Apple releases a 24" glossy ACD for desktops?
Apple itself may offer an option, as they now do for the 17" MBP for an extra 50.00.
It's taking a while for folks to understand the real value of antiglare hardcoat screens. They don't have bling, but they ARE the thing!

I don't care for the glossy either but when compared to my PB G4, it turns out the brightness of the LED screen far makes up for the problem of glossy and it is easier to read than a dimmer matte surface in the G4 PB. I would have bought matte if I HAD A CHOICE. But Apple chooses for me and makes my dilemma their way or the highway (Windows).

Jeff, I'm completely with you on this. I think this is bogus. Even $50.00 is too much. It should remain an option, as it always was. Everyone got what they wanted. What was wrong with that?
The MacBookPro WAS a great machine. Right now it's been crippled by ONE Firewire port, and a glary LED display, plus an DRM-infested DisplayPort.
At Apple's prices, the Matte Option should be offered for FREE. The same is true for the ACD for the desktop.
