Fujitsu waterproof phone

Maker of fingerprint sensors, AuthenTec, announced on Sunday that Fujitsu has started shipping the F-01A handset, the world's first with IPX5 and IPX7 waterfproof specifications and a fingerprint scanner. The handset is being offered by Japan's NTT DoCoMo wireless provider, and can remain submerged under up to nearly 3.3 feet of water for up to 30 minutes. The phone is also the first to utilize AuthenTec's TouchStone packaging, which includes AuthenTec's TrueNav technology that lets the AES1711 fingerprint scanner double as a touchpad for navigating the phone's controls.

The sensor also has AuthenTec's TrueFinger anti-spoofing for security and TrueMatch pattern matching for reliable, quick and easy scans of users' fingerprints.

The F-01A, which is the flagship of NTT DoCoMo's Prime series of handsets, sports a 3.5-inch VGA touchscreen and a Symbian operating system. Other features include a 5.2-megapixel camera with autofocus and an integrated GPS sensor with Mobile Google Maps with Street View software. An e-Wallet mobile payment system and a 1Seg mobile TV tuner are likewise included in the latest cellphone from Fujtsu.

Pricing information for the F-01A handset in Japan has not been released. [via Tech-On]
