beamME sweepstakes

In brief: An Apple community member has created a new website where people can leave comments for Steve Jobs. MacNN has taken a look at an application for Mac OS X that aims at turning large piles of unorganized receipts into a well organized database. Meanwhile, US residents can enter a new sweepstakes for a free flight to a destination of their choosing by downloading and using an iPhone application.

Pray for Steve is a simple site that consists entirely of comments, notes of encouragement and get-well messages directed to Steve Jobs, CEO of Apple. Jobs, who has been rumored to be suffering health issues for some time now, released a note explaining that he was experiencing a “hormonal imbalance”. More recently, he announced a leave of absence from his position to focus on bettering his health, which turned out to be worse than expected.

MacNN has taken a look at GGT Enterprises’ ReceiptWallet and found that it integrates well into the Mac OS X environment. The software was created to help users organize all of the receipts collected from day-to-day purchases. ReceiptWallet turned out to be very handy with organizing large piles of receipts and could turn entered data into various forms of reports that were useful in analyzing spending. The only problem that arose was that the OCR (recognizing the details of the receipt from the scanned image) was unreliable.

US residents can enter the beamME/Up sweepstakes by downloading and installing the free beamME application for their iPhone or iPod Touch. Through January 24th, every new personal or business contact made using beamME provides the user with an additional entry in the contest. Bonus challenges, detailed on the beamME website, offer an opportunity to increase the number of potential contest entries. The complete set of sweepstakes rules and restrictions can be found online. The winner will have the option to fly anywhere in the US and bring along one guest.

thanks for the link macnn ;-)

    http://www.receiptwallet.com/

i bought the app on 'day 1' to support Scott's initiative/get the ball rolling (for the record, in my experience he's a diligent coder with a voracity for quality/detail)

    - just hope i don't have to pay for an upgrade before i actually buy a scanner!!!

i'm hoping, nay praying, that it'll be the panacea to my 200 boxes of receipts! (when i get a spare few months to tackle it wholeheartedly)

...keep up the good work young man!
