USB Recording Kit

Alesis has announced its USB Recording Kit, a complete computer-recording system on display at the NAMM show. The bundles allows recording higher quality audio by combining AM2 condenser microphones and two-way active studio monitors with a digital audio recording interface. Recording music involves only hooking the equipment up through any computer using two USB ports and a pair or microphone cables.

The AM2 stereo microphone set contains a matched pair of AM2 condenser microphones, an XY-stereo mount, and miniature cardioid condensers to offer a switchable pad and high-pass filter for managing the signal.

The iO/2 digital audio interface comes complete with two XLR-1/4-inch combination inputs and 48V phantom power, and provides inputs for users to plug in microphones and instruments. The device sends CD-quality 16bit 44.1 kHz audio to a user's computer via USB.

The M1Active 320 USB studio monitors carry 1-inch silk-dome tweeters and 3-inch lightweight woofers with both analog and USB inputs. Each speaker contains additional inputs to let them work as stand-alones when connected through USB.

Compatible with Windows XP/Vista or Mac OS 8 and later, the kit is $400 with an estimated street price of $300.

    OS 8?

Wow, haven't seen anything that claims to be OS 8 compatible in awhile... Typo?

    OS 8

Not a typo in the article. The website says OS 8 on their list.

Being that it's just hardware, it probably works on any computer with usable USB.

Wait, did OS 8 even support USB? The iMacs were the first USB macs, and I think they came with 9.
