ioSafe debuts Solo waterproof, fireproof storage

updated 03:00 pm EST, Tue January 13, 2009

ioSafe Solo

ioSafe has debuted the Solo, an external hard drive that offers up to 1.5TB of storage and features protection against fire or water damage. The company claims that the housing can withstand fire temperatures up to 1550 degrees Fahrenheit and flood protection down to a 10 foot depth for three days. Along with the drive, customers will also receive up to $1000 toward third-party forensic drive data recovery services that can be used if the devices sustain enough damage to prevent direct access to information by standard means.

The protection system uses FloSafe technology that provides airflow cooling during normal operation, but closes the vents when certain heat levels are reached. The housing also provides endothermic insulation that is embedded with water to further resist extreme temperatures. The HydoSafe technology protects against freshwater or saltwater damage but without inhibiting the air cooling on a daily basis.

The ioSafe Solo is available with a 500GB drive for $150, 1TB for $200 or 1.5TB for $300. A power cord and USB cable is included with each package.

    Only USB?

Does this drive only connect with USB, or does it include FireWire as well?
