FileWave 3.7 enables duplicating whole machines

FileWave says it has begun selling v3.7 of its namesake software. The program is mainly used to install and configure operating system upgrades across large networks, saving the time of manual installation on each computer. Mac, Windows and Linux systems can be updated, and additional support allows installing third-party apps such as Adobe's Creative Suite.

The central improvement of v3.7 is to ability to duplicate a computer's contents, a task handled through the FileWave Imager. Administrators select a mounted disk volume, from which a new installation is created; this is used to ensure that all subsequent computers have identical applications onboard. Existing system names and settings can be preserved on machines through pre- and post-installation options.

Mac support for FileWave requires Mac OS X 10.3.9 on clients and v10.4 on an adminstrator's system. Buyers must contact the company for pricing.
