updated 08:50 am EST, Thu January 8, 2009

Expresscard, USB drive

Verbatim has announced three of its latest products, ExpressCard SSD, Store 'n' Go Micro USB drive, and the Speaker Keyboard. The ExpressCard/34 is a solid-state drive (SSD) that provides plug-in storage at 16GB, 32GB and 64GB. With read speeds up to 125MB/s and write speeds maxed at 30MB/s, the storage device also comes equipped with NTI Shadow 4 to enable automatic backup every time a change occurs.

Kanguru Defender is a store-and-go Micro USB drive with 2GB, 4GB, and 8GB storage capacities; it also features a password security feature to help protect the user's data. Prices for the USB Drive are $20, $30, and $50, respectively and the device to be released in late January.

The Kanguru Defender comes with system-in-package (SIP) technology which helps seal in the electronic components to protect against water, dust, physical shock and electrostatic discharge (ESD).

Lastly, the Speaker Keyboard is what the name implies: a keyboard with built-in speakers. Featuring integrated dual speakers, users can control the volume and boost base while managing their music. The unique keyboard offers stereo-quality sound and features backlight illumination making it possible to control the music with the lights off.

Both the Kanguru USB Drive and ExpressCard SSD are on display at Macworld Expo. The ExpressCard SSD varies in price from $100 to $300 depending on the storage capacity and will be available late February, according to the company. The Speaker Keyboard is available to purchase now for between $70 and $90, depending on the retail store.
