Logitech reveals Harmony 1100 touch remote

updated 09:50 am EST, Tue January 6, 2009

Logitech Harmony 1100

Logitech continued its wave of CES news with the release of the Harmony 1100, the sequel to last year's 1000. The update switches to a black anodized aluminum design and now adds customization to the 3.5-inch touchscreen's controls; users can add or remove buttons that appear under certain conditions, such as a software play/pause button after a movie starts. It also brings support for RF-based devices rather than just those using infrared for their normal remotes.

The device continues to sync through USB on both Macs and PCs and can be auto-configured for as many as 15 out of 175,000-plus devices Logitech supports in an online database. The company plans a comparatively quick turnaround and will ship the 1100 in February for $500.

    The questions are

    • does it have an Apple TV icon.
      - does it have a keyboard that works with ATV.
      - can you control the TV's volume and navigate ATV without switching the remote between the TV and ATV.

    Harmony One FTW

This seems good, but I think the Harmony One is the best remote ever. The physical buttons are well thought out and are positioned and shaped so you can easily use the thing in the dark.

    Physical buttons better

When I use a TV remote, I don't want to look at the remote, I want to look at the screen. Unless this thing can show me a full program guide on the screen and let me change channels that way, it won't be very useful.
