Apples Mini DisplayPort suffers distortion issues

Apples Mini DisplayPort

Apples release of its Mini DisplayPort to dual-link DVI adapters has apparently been having some distortion problems. According to users, shortly after hooking the DisplayPort up to various Dell displays, and in some cases Apple’s 30-inch cinema, problems regarding loss of half the display information takes place. Seeming as if one of its dual "links" has failed, the problem can be temporarily fixed by unplugging and re-plugging either the Mini DisplayPort connector or the USB connection.

When testing out the complications, people have been saying that it tends to occur very rapidly when a USB hub is plugged into either the second MacBook USB port, on into the adapter’s pass-through port.

Considering the adapter was delayed in its initial shipping, it appears customers have become rather disgruntled about waiting for a product that is suffering from such major problems.

It doesn't seem to be

getting off to a good start. I hope it's something that's firmware upgradeable or DisplayPort will be another Apple technology that will come and go within a short time.

I'm not a big fan of DisplayPort or HDMI. I hate all these replicate technologies which are LESS than their predecessors and are not even stable.

DVI is perfect. It gives you a clean stable signal; strong connections with lots of flexibility and bandwidth. And you have choice with how you want to route your audio.

I think ADC was dumb, and I think DisplayPort is even dumber, because it has DRM.

As shawnde said, What's wrong with DVI? It's proven technology that works. Period.
HDMI limits resolution to 1920 x1080. I don't really care about the DRM thing, since I either buy or rent my media. Apple probably needed to make concessions to the media companies.

This is yet another reason to NEVER buy a Rev.A Mac.
I've done it and regretted it.

The video in my MacBook Pro (old aluminum 2.4GHz) just crapped out completely. I was working on a deadline and bought a new MBP 2.6 (old style) instead of a unibody.

I'd prefer a rock solid model than the (tempting) glitzy new model. I also need a second FireWire port and matte screen (though there are matte screen protectors available)

DisplayPort isn't an Apple technology to begin with. or maybe you spell "VESA" differently in your hometown.

Mini DisplayPort is an Apple thing. but it is a cable adapter more or less. the underlying signal and spec is non-Apple.

i don't see where it clarifies that the problem is specifically related to the cable-end/plug shape vs. the actual standard itself.

Wow,

Charge customers $99.00 for a dongle that doesn't even work correctly. what nerve.

I remember a time when the mini-DVI to DVI and VGA cables were INCLUDED in the box. I also remember that the Apple remotes came included with all computers but the Mac Pro. Now you have to fork out 20 bucks for that. 20 bucks for "mini displayport to dvi". another 20 if you want VGA, and 100 if you want a non-working dual-link DVI to displaynonsense.

Apple has been so busy nickeling and diming its customers to death that they let quality control fall by the wayside. At the same time, they are systematically removing standard features like firewire, and implementing interface changes like "mini displayport". How many monitors on the market come with displayport to begin with?? How many video cards on the market can you name that have displayport??

Apple have been slipping and slipping all year long. Remember the MobileME fisaco? It started around that time, and they have gotten worse ever since.

As Jobs slowly relinquishes the reigns at Apple, his successor(s) have been dropping the ball left and right.
