Sony leaks VAIO P "pocketable" netbook

Sony VAIO P Leak

Sony on Christmas has unintentionally confirmed its netbook model through a placeholder on its VAIO homepage. Now officially labeled the VAIO P, the "revolutionary" system is described as small enough to fit in a pocket yet having a full notebook-level resolution: the 8-inch, LED-backlit display has an extremely wide 1600x768 resolution that covers much more area than the 1024x600 displays of typical netbooks. It also carries full notebook storage with at least a 60GB rotating hard drive and up to a 128GB solid-state drive.

The accidental posting also confirms certain details while leaving others incomplete. Sony mentions the use of either Vista Home Basic or Home Premium but doesn't mention other specs besides a 1.33GHz Intel processor; the system is likely to be based on an Atom chip given the small size. An FCC slip has pointed to the inclusion of Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and optional 3G.

Launch info is equally unavailable as part of the leak, though Sony is known to be unveiling the VAIO P at CES and may release it soon afterwards. [via jkOnTheRun]

    copycat

What a copycat. Netbook exsists for a while and Sony decides to jump on the wagon. The same goes for GPS navigator and iPod wannabe. Nothing is original from Sony these days.

    Copying?

Why is everything "copying" with you nuts? Netbooks are a market segment now. Sony can't produce a netbook because other people are doing it?

What about apple and the iphone? Same thing isn't it? Cell phones have existed for a long time. What a ridiculous argument.

For a group of people that hate "copying" so much, you frequently all say the exact same thing.

Also, elroth, you are assuming the picture is the new netbook. I think you are wrong.

    no

An iPod fits in your pocket. A cell phone fits in your pocket. A netbook with an 8 inch screen and whatever thickness it has does not fit in your pocket. At least not my pocket.

    There's more...

...to this announcement. The most exciting news is yet to come. Concurrent with the release of this pocketable notebook, Sony will be releasing the all new Pocket 2.0 which is significantly larger and faster than traditional pockets.

(Pocket 2.0 may not be compatible with your existing pants, jackets, etc. )
