Focal AquaTune speakers

Focal of Japan has just announced the release of two new waterproof speaker enclosures in its AquaTune series made to work with Apple's iPod personal music players. Both the AquaTune v2 and AquaTune nano 4G use clear, polycarbonate bodies with O-ring seals and are rated to keep the interiors free of water when submerged at up to 1 meter (~3.3 feet) for 30 minutes. The larger AquaTune v2 will accommodate Apple's fourth and fifth generation iPods, first through fourth-gen iPod nanos, iPod classic, first and second-gen iPod shuffle and the iPod mini with the use of an included spacer.

A flexible membrane made of silicon rubber allows users to operate the applicable devices' click wheels. A waterproof stereo input jack lets users connect other sources to the AquaTune v2. The two near 1.8-inch diameter speakers are rated at 3W each and are capable of producing a frequency range of 50Hz to 20kHz. Four AA batteries can power the speakers for a maximum of 30 hours.

The AquaTune nano 4G speakers are sized at 1.3 inches each, rated at 1W and have a frequency response of 200Hz to 18kHz. Three AAA batteries will power the speakers for up to 18 hours. For personal listening while in the water, a headphone output covered by a waterproof cap is included in the nano 4G case.

The AquaTune V2 is available now in Japan for the equivalent of $175, with the AquaTune nano 4G speakers being released in January, priced at about $120. [via Impress]
