updated 10:35 am EST, Mon December 22, 2008

IconBurglar 1.0 released

BravoBug has published the first version of IconBurglar, a media extraction utility for Macs. The app is in particular used to retrieve media from other applications, with an emphasis on icons; users can search for an app, preview its icon at any available resolution, and then export the results to PNG, JPG, TIFF or ICNS format. Images are scaled to the appropriate resolution and retain transparency.

The program can additionally extract generic images, as well as various sound and/or music files. Original files are left unaltered. IconBurglar is a Universal Binary for Mac OS X 10.5 or higher, and costs $15.

    What's the market?

If you want icons, it's not that hard to right/control-click on an application to show package contents and spend a minute or two looking for an icon file.

I can see where others might be harder to spot or search through, but unless this is a regular task, why would pay $15 for what you can do for free the few times you'll ever need the media?
